Welcome to the party pal

Well, well, well. So France has its own intifada going. For about two weeks in over 300 cities across France children of Arab and North African immigrants have rioted, burning over 2500 cars, many buildings and killed at least one person. After all the years of France, Europe and the European Union criticized Israel for their actions controlling rioters they have their own "uprising." Welcome to the party pal.

The riots started because of the accidental deaths of two teenagers who were running away from police and died when they unfortunately hid in a power transformer. In 1987 four Palestinians were accidentally killed in a car crash with an Israeli vehicle, but no matter, the Palestinians claimed it was intentional and the the first Palestinian uprising started. Israel imposed curfews, arrested hundreds, probably thousands and engaged in raids and various crowd control techniques all of which brought down the harsh diplomatic treatment from France and Europe. Really the whole world. Now it's France's turn.

France's Cabinet has approved emergency measures allowing local officials to impose curfews and allow police to carry out raids for suspected stockpiling of weapons. Hundreds of arrests have also been made.

I'm not going to argue that Arab and North African immigrants or their children have been treated well by French society. They haven't. Some of it is intentional some of it is a natural result of French culture. (a.k.a. snobbiness). But I wonder if France, and other countries affected by this breakdown of society, will pass United Nations Resolutions against themselves for their treatment of the rioters. Maybe the Israelis can bring it up. I'd at least like to see the Israeli ambassador to the U.N. walk over the France's representative and say, "See, I told you so." In any event, welcome to the party France.

So were we snobs because of all the race riots we've had here? I wonder can we call the French snobs when they let these immigrants in and we support tyrants in Africa. In all my travels I've observed more obnoxious snobbery from Americans who expect special treatment, and see the world like an amusement park existing for their pleasure.

I've never seen a Frenchman shouting in French because everyone in Festus Missouri dosen't speak his language, yet you see it constantly with Americans abroad. And it isn't the French who insisted that everyone in the world agree that Saddam had the Bomb. I think we owe them a bit of humility and sympathy for having lied to them and insisted they were cowards for not believing our lies.
Calling them snobs is indeed an act of snobbery on our part.

Thank you Captain for making the point about snobbery.
Cranky, the situation in Israel is worlds different from the one in France. Israelis are illegally occupying land. The French are dealing with an immigrant population that is destitute, unassimmilated because of intense French exclusionism and racism. Perhaps the French shouldn't have made their home countries so miserable to live in.

Riots happen - they happened here in LA after the Rodney King verdict and the government. And they will happen elsewhere. Were the riots in LA about race or class or can you admit that the 2 unfortunately overlap here in America?

Oh Captain you really are in a fog! How elitist of you to let us all know about your world travels.I suggest you go live with the French for a time. How about forever? We will be rid of you and the better for it.Enjoy the ham.

By the way I not sure for whom to root for in this struggle. What a conundrum.

How irresponsible of you to call yourself an intellectual insurgent. Bonding your higher intellect with a politically incorrect term implying revolt and violence. How powerful you must feel. How easily the words "Israelis are illegally occupying land" slip off your tongue. You are a brainwashed anti-zionist. Oh lets not get into that argument. It should be interesting to watch how the situation resolves itself. Lets call for a United Nations resolution declaring the French racist. I know how you'll vote. With the lawbreakers.

Damn, you have a troll infestation. I thought your remark on French culture was pretty snarky. France is the only country that I know of that has a government bureau to protect the "purity" of its language.

When you casually shoot you mouth off about issues which are passionate to millions of fanatics, behind the anonymity of a Blog, expect people with an interest to respond. Now go to a porn site where you can show your passion.

Maxwell,

I am happy to debate you on the facts anyday. Anonymity or not.

However, your intro to my world started with an insult, so it does not appear that you have much, by way of facts, to offer. If that is not the case, let me know. Otherwise, take some prozac, get a blow job and relax because all that anger is going to give you a heart attack.
